Jaisalmer Fort
The giant castle set amidst the tawny expanse of sand, Jaisalmer Fort or Sonar Qila is a mesmerizing fortress built by renowned Rajput Ruler, Rawal Jaisal in 1156. Rising high from Trikuta Hills, the fort dons soft tones of honey gold colour amidst the vast virgin deserts, making the ambience look out of this world. It is a living fort accommodating a quarter of city’s population inside this castle. The sights to see inside this crenellated fortress include Raj Mahal (Royal palace), Jain temples and the Laxminath temple.
Merchant Havelis
Located around Jaisalmer Fort, Havelis were the lavish and private mansions of wealthy merchants. Patwa ki Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli, and Nathmal-ki Haveli are three known havelis known for its intricate details, frescoes, jharokhas and archways.
Gadi Sagar
One of the most important tourist attractions in Jaisalmer, Gadi Sagar Lake served the city in its olden days with water. A manmade reservoir, this lake transports a traveller to a different world altogether.
Jain Temples
This group of fine jain temples are belived to be built the 12th to 15th century within the Jaisalmer fort. They are beautiful carved and dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Sambhavnathji. You can also see a Shiva and Ganesh Temple inside the fort. Some of the oldest manuscripts of India are found Gyan Bhandar library established as a part of Jain temples.
