City Information 
Khajuraho, the city of moon descendants, exudes the passion, beauty and freedom. The temples were built from 950 to 1150 by Chandelas and the city served as a cultural capital of the empire. Located in a Chattarpur District, the set of temples are unique in the world, making it a UNESCO world heritage site. The city can rival to the likes of Rome and Paris, in terms of sculptures. Set amidst the beautiful backdrop of Vindhya Range, Khajuraho Temples depict a fusion of religion and erotica. Famous mainly for sensual sculptures, Khajuraho basically hosts the largest collection of 25 Hindu temples representing immaculate finesse, intricacy and are extraordinarily beautiful. 

Straight from Kamasutra, the temples at Khajuraho portray explicit scenes of lovemaking on outer walls, whereas the inner set of western temples are dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu. One line to describe this mesmerizing site - a fascination, a marvelous thought, leaving you mesmerized. 

Major Tourist Locations 
The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple

One of the largest and most ornate medieval temples, Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. Belonging to the western group of temples, this temple’s 31 m high shikhara symbolizes Mount Kailash, the Himalayan mountain abode of Shiva. Decorated with a profusion of sculptures, Kandariya Mahadev Temple is amongst the greatest masterpieces of Indian art. Inside the main temple chamber, a marble shiv linga represents the deity presence. 

Western Group of Temples: 
The Western Group of Temples takes pride in representing the mesmerizing medieval sculpted art Featuring the richest and largest temples, this group showcases the finest and oldest temples namely Lakhmana Temple and Chausath Yogini Temple. The Jagadambi, Chitragupta, are notable among the known temples. The famous light and sound show reminds the bygone times of Chandela Kings and narrates the story behind exclusive temples. Notable actor Amitabh Bachchan lends his voice in reciting the glory of Khajuraho. 

Eastern Group of Temples 
The Eastern Group of Temples feature two different religious networks namely Brahminical and Jain sect. Famous temples of mention include Javari Temple, Vamana Temple, Brahma and Hanuman Temple. Situated around Khajuraho Village, the eastern group is also known for Parsvanath Temple, largest among the group with detailed and exquisite outer wall carvings. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Javari Temple’s elaborate architecture and intricate design alogn with elaborate gateway lures the travellers as well. Eminent Jain Temples include Ghantai Temple, Adinath Temple dedicated to Jain Tirthankar, Adinath. 

Southern Group of Temples 
Located on the south east side of Khajuraho Village, Southern Group of Temples consists of three widely separated temples namely Duladev enshrining Shivalinga, Chattarbhuj Temple, famed for not having any erotic carving and Beejamandal Temple which is ruined at present. 

Panna National Park 
Spread over an area of 543 sq km, Panna National Park is famous as an abode of 37 Tigers along with Nilgais, Chinkara, Sloth Bear, Sambar, and many more. Just 25 km away from Khajuraho, this scenic reserve also has a flowing river and chirpy waterfalls making it more enigmatic. 

Raneh Falls 
The natural waterfall on Ken River, Raneh Waterfalls features a 5 kilometres long, and 30 metres deep canyon made of pure crystalline granite in varying shades. A series of waterfalls adorns the canyon. 

Ken Nature Trail 
Close to Raneh Falls, Ken Nature Trail is a jungle track exhibiting a bounteous beauty and natural charm.

How to Get There
By Air 
Khajuraho Airport is located 5 km from the city and is connected by major national airlines. 

By train Khajuraho station links the city to Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh) and Mahoba Station also connects the route through Gwalior-Howrah Chambal Express, Mahakoshal Express, Allahabad-Lokmanya Tilak Express and Bundelkhand Express.

By Road A good network of roadways connects Khajuraho to Agra, Jhansi and Orchha.

Bandhavgarh National Park 

Bandhavgarh National Park is famous for rare white tigers and enjoys high density of tigers on the whole. The small park is known for large biodiversity featuring large breeding population of Leopards, deer. 

Kalinjar 
The fortress of Kalinjar is located on an isolated rocky hill towards the end of Vindhya Range, overlooking the plains of Bundelkhand. It has been a witness of several dynasts including the Chandela dynasty of Rajputs in the 10th century, and the Solankis of Rewa. At present, the fortress consists of several Vedic Age temples including the Gupta dynasty of the 300 AD.

Majhgavan Diamond Mines 
The country’s only working diamond mine, Majhgavan is just 56 km away from Khajuraho city.

Varanasi
India’s religious capital, Varanasi is the one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Located on the Ghats - Banks of River Ganges, Varanasi is often referred to as "the city of temples", "the holy city of India", "the city of lights", and "the city of learning”.

Gwalior 
Referred as ‘the Pearl among fortresses in India’, Gwalior adorns the country with its only hilltop fort. The way to the majesty of Gwalior Fort from Agra is 122 km away, showcasing the grandeur of Scindia Territory and the long preserved musical heritage of Tansen’s Gwalior Gharana.

Agra 
The City of Taj Mahal, Agra was the Mughal capital located on the banks of the river Yamuna. The city showcases luxuriant splendour of Mughal Emperors and architecture through Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri as well. All three of them are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
